Reflexology:How Does It Work?
The Springfield Newspaper, , 2009
Itís amazing how the body can heal itself if given the right environment. The feet are special because they are in touch with the rest of the physical body, and are able to provide that healing environment.
Our feet are our basic foundation; the whole body is supported by the feet: not only structurally, but with the connection of blood flow and nerve endings. Every organ in the body can be accessed through the feet. By using pressure techniques on the feet, the healing potential is activated.
Reflexology is a specialized form of compression which can assist the body in healing various ailments. This therapy can be used on the feet and the hands. This eliminates toxins or poisonous substances from the body that can cause disease.
To do this, a reflexologist stimulates areas in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet that correspond to internal organs. As in acupressure, the reflexologist uses his thumb and fingers, applying deep pressure to specific points on the feet to relieve symptoms.
There are many physical problems that can be addressed by reflexology. Some of them are painful and stiff joints (knees, hips, shoulders, etc.), headaches and migraines, infections, colds and sinus.
Pressure on certain points sends signals that balance the nervous system and encourage circulation. Reflexology is a complementary therapy often used in conjunction with other treatments. It is a modality that always assists what you have in your own health regimen, bringing the body into balance.
